How to Generate PRN for SSS Loan Payment

how to generate prn for sss loan payment

All SSS members must pay their monthly contributions regularly and on time. It is vital if members want to access their SSS benefits or loans, especially when needed. Of course, if a member has an employer, payments are assuredly on time and regularly. For self-paying members, there is a variety of payment channels available. But in the new SSS payment scheme, a PRN (Payment Reference Number) must be obtained for each payment to be posted in real-time, regardless of whether the employer or self-paying member is making the payment. This article is a practical guide on how to generate PRN for SSS loan payment and contribution.

What is a Payment Reference Number SSS?

The payment reference number SSS or PRN number SSS is a unique system-generated number used by individual SSS members or employers when paying a contribution or loan. The PRN corresponds to a specific billing statement. There is no permanent PRN, as each PRN is generated for each payment.

To avoid confusion, members should realize that the PRN differs from the CRN or Common Reference Number and SSS number. The CRN is found on the SSS ID or UMID card, while the SSS number is the permanent proof of membership in the SSS.

The SSS now requires the PRN to ensure that each contribution or loan payment is immediately and correctly posted to the member’s account. In the old payment system, all SSS payments used to be verified and posted manually. Under the new SSS Real-Time Processing of Contributions (RTPC) program, contributions or loan payments are immediately posted to an SSS member’s contribution record.

The instant posting of payments ensures that members can see the status of the latest payment they have made and all payments made.

Since July 2021, the SSS has made it mandatory for all employers and members to use the Payment Reference Number (PRN) when paying SSS loans. Non-PRN loan payments are no longer accepted, whether the payment is made online or through the EDINet or Electronic Data Interchange facility.

How To Generate PRN for SSS Loan Payment Online through My.SSS

Not only is it mandatory for employers and members to use the new PRN system when paying contributions or loans, but they are also required to register and create a My.SSS account at the official SSS website. Members and employers with their own My.SSS accounts can generate their own PRN online. The PRN for employers is generated after confirmation of the electronic Contributions Collection List/e-CL. For members’ confirmation, it is the Statement of Account/SOA.

SSS makes a few exceptions for some members, allowing them to go to the nearest SSS office to pay their contributions without a PRN. It is provided that the member has never been issued or has received any PRN in the past.

Please note that any PRN, no matter how generated, can only be used once since it expires five (5) days after the due date. So, each time a member makes a contribution or loan payment, a new PRN has to be generated or requested.

Firstly though, members should register their SSS account online.
